Kemenperin Partners with Associations to Produce Quality Workers for Logistics Sector

June 03, 2021

JAKARTAThe COVID-19 pandemic has not dampened the industrial sector’s willingness to partner with Politeknik APP Jakarta to improve the competency of workers.

In supporting the development and growth of Indonesia’s human resources, so that they will become quality and competitive workers in the logistics sector, the Industry Ministry (Kemenperin) will once again hold the Industrial Vocational Education – Diploma One Equivalent program in partnership with the Politeknik APP Jakarta institute and the Express Couriers Association of Indonesia (Asperindo).

This current partnership program aims to fulfill the human resource needs of the Logistics Study Program in South Kalimantan. “This program is a breakthrough in preparing workers for the industrial sector to fulfill industry requirements through the Multiple Vocational Education system, or dual system, with a tailor-made approach using the 3 in 1 model for training, BNSP certification and work placement through the teaching factory,” the Kemenperin’s head of the industry workforce development department (BPSDMI) Arus Gunawan said in a written statement on Monday (26/1).

Asperindo vice-chairman Budi Paryanto explained that the partnership with Politeknik APP Jakarta has been going for seven years, but this will be the first time that the D1 equivalent program will be held in South Kalimantan. “The partnership with the local government will help support the human resources in the region and will also help drive job creation and accelerate the growth of small and medium scale industries (UMKM) in the region,” he said.

Budi added that the education that will be given to the many high school or vocational school graduates participating in the program will consist of industry orientation guidelines that aim to ensure their readiness as industry workers.

Adding to that, the 2nd deputy of the Banjarmasin regional government’s economic department Doyo Pudjadi said that the Banjarmasin government is welcoming this program with open arms due to the benefits it will give prospective workers in Banjarmasin in their readiness to operate in industrial occupations.

In 2020, the Kemenperin has facilitated a total of 18 D1-equivalent training programs for 607 participants across 10 provinces and 12 regencies and cities. Specifically for the logistics sector, the ministry will hold this program in several locations across Indonesia including Baturaja, Gresik, Tangerang, Makassar, Banjarmasin and Bontang, with the main aim of upskilling.

The head of the Kemenperin’s Vocational Industry Education Development department Iken Retnowulan added that her department is encouraging the participation of state-owned companies (BUMN) and industry actors to hold this program due to the super tax deduction breaks on offer for industries and companies that focus on providing effective vocational training for their workers or prospective workers.
