PIDI 4.0 Helping Industry Workers Adopt to the Latest Technologies

April 30, 2021

JAKARTAIn order to compete in the Industry 4.0 era, industry workers must acquire the adequate skills to operate the latest technology.

The Industry Ministry (Kemenperin) has identified this challenge as essential to foster a more productive, innovative and competitive local industry. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the implementation of Industry 4.0 methods will only be effective if the talent required to operate it is sufficiently skilled.

“That is why Kemenperin is pushing for the improvement of human resource quality in various industrial sectors, through measures such as reskilling and upskilling,” the Minister said in a written statement on Friday (9/4).

Currently, only 21% of industrial sectors in Indonesia have begun adopting Industry 4.0 technologies in their operations, but 79% of these sectors are currently still in the pilot phases, without applying any scale up measures.

To help these sectors accelerate their progress, the Kemenperin opened its Human Resource Innovation and Development Center (PIDI 4.0) in order to provide direct experience and proper guidance for industries in implementing Industry 4.0 technologies in their operations.

“PIDI 4.0 will help educate industries on how to implement digital manufacturing methods that will enable them to develop and grow their operations, diversify their design and intensify productivity in all of their value chains,” the Minister explained.

PIDI 4.0 is a symbol of partnership and collaboration between the government and the private sector, due to the center being run under this concept. That is why all Industry 4.0 stakeholders are required to join pre-conference activities and actively contribute towards the acceleration of Industry 4.0 implementation in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Kemenperin’s Head of Industry Human Resource Development Arus Gunawan added that PIDI 4.0 will serve as a showcase center, capability center, Industry 4.0 development center, delivery center and an innovation center.

Also, the Kemenperin is currently developing a separate satellite network for PIDI 4.0 within the ministry’s working units, as well as for several industries that will act as “lighthouses” for Industry 4.0.

“We hope that the PIDI 4.0 satellite network will help the center achieve its Industry 4.0 transformation targets and functions,” Arus said.
