IDF 2019: Prioritising Digital Economy through IDEA Space
July 23, 2019There was something different from Indonesia Development Forum (IDF) 2019. This year, for the first time, IDF 2019 held a session called IDEA (Inclusive Digital Economy Accelerator) Space. This session served as an interactive forum for champions and actors of startup companies, capital holders, and associations.
This special session convened 75 small and medium scale startup businesses, which will have the opportunity to interact and learn from 15 large startups with an established position in the industrial 4.0. Also, 61 venture capital owners attended the session. They used this opportunity to search for new startup business seeds to develop across Indonesia.
Furthermore, five startup associations also interacted with initiators and beginners on this annual forum held by the Ministry of National Development Planning / National Development Planning Agency, collaborating with the Australian Government through Knowledge Sector Initiative.
“This IDEA Space is also a follow up of the digital economy development direction conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, last month. The development and strengthening of the digital economy is in line with the primary idea highlighted in IDF 2019, in that going forward, it is critical for us to prepare workforce who are ready to compete in the industrial era 4.0, and create an investment climate that can turn into a good ecosystem for the growth of digital economy,” said the Minister of National Development Planning / Head of National Development Planning Agency, Bambang Brodjonegoro, in the midst of his visit to IDEA Space during the opening ceremony of IDF 2019.
IDEA Space was held thanks to the collaboration between IDF 2019 and Indonesia Forum, which is also chaired by the Minister of National Development Planning / Head of National Development Planning Agency, Bambang Brodjonegoro. Indonesia Forum is an independent institution aiming to provide policy recommendations. It consists of multi-stakeholders, namely scholars, business executives, bureaucrats, local governments, and corporations.
“We are certain that IDEA Space held in IDF 2019 is in alignment with the primary focuses of Indonesia Forum in the future, which are Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Industry 4.0., dan entrepreneurship. In fact, our Vice-Chair, Achmad Zaky, who is also the founder and CEO of Bukalapak, personally shared his experience in this IDEA Space,” revealed the Secretary-General of Indonesia Forum, Danang Rizki Ginanjar.
So, what startups and innovations made an appearance in IDF 2019? One of them was Medical and Nursing Services, Cicendo Eye Hospital, which was represented by the Director, Feti Karfiati Memed. She created an application called “Si Galih”.
“We create Si Galih application as the basis to make patient data at the integrated assisted posts (posbindu), community health centers (puskesmas), hospitals, and the Ministry of Health faster, more effective, and efficient, to optimise patient management. Our spirit is how to reduce blindness rate in Indonesia,” she said in a presentation conveyed on one of the Ideas and Innovations Marketplace session.
There was also Sapnah Rahmawati from IPC Corporate University, who presented the innovation called GONDESO, which is a Digitalisation of Exploring Tourism Villages in Indonesia.
“We will collaborate with the tourism office. Yogya has the most case, especially in Sleman, “ she explained.
IPC embraces self-sustaining and developing villages so that they can increase their productivity.
“Housewives will finally get jobs in catering or making batik. For the development process, we are currently raising funds, and we also cooperate with Tourism Aware Group association (Pokdarwis). For the mechanism, there will be a special space for Pokdarwis, along with the tourism office. Then, we will link them with the list of villages they can market to, and so forth,” she elaborated.
Innovation and ideas also emerged from Petra Karetji, founder of Plakarika Creative Hub, with his presentation entitled “Through Plakarika, establishing a creative space for local communities to drive innovative interactions, deriving our strength from the nature and Jailolo culture, with a motto ‘Although we have fallen before, let’s rise together,’” said Petra Karetji.
There were more ideas and innovations presented during the first day of IDF 2019, July 22, at the Jakarta Convention Centre.
This IDEA Space further established IDF as an international evidence-based development forum, the only one in Indonesia. The unique values provided by IDF do not rest solely on the comprehensive topics and hundreds of speakers from various sectors; IDF also presented a method of collecting ideas and thinkings, translated as the 4I approach (Inspire, Imagine, Innovate, Initiate).
Every year, IDF also held the Ideas and Innovations Marketplace, which functioned as an interactive forum for participants in developing their ideas and social innovations. This year, the Marketplace session was extra special, with IDF bringing in arts and culture space as a part of the idea to develop a creative economy.
By presenting speakers who can provide good examples and practices on arts and culture that can boost economic growth, it is expected that the creative economy and digital economy can synergise to achieve inclusive development.
