Dr. Hilmar Farid, Direktur Jenderal Kebudayaan Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. Hilmar merupakan orang pertama yang menduduki kursi Direktur Jenderal yang berasal dari tataran non-pegawai kementerian. Saat dilantik, ia masih menduduki jabatan Komisaris di PT Krakatau Steel. Latar belakang Hilmar adalah seorang sejarawan, aktivis, dan pengajar . Ia juga sempat aktif di Asian Regional Exchange for New Alternatives (ARENA) dan Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Society sebagai Editor. Pada 2002, Hilmar mendirikan dan memimpin Institut Sejarah Sosial Indonesia sampai 2007 dan hingga kini masih menjadi Ketua Dewan Pembina organisasi nirlaba tersebut.

Dr. Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture. Hilmar was the first person to occupy a Director General's position who did not come from the internal ministry’s human resources. When inaugurated, he still held the position of Commissioner at PT Krakatau Steel. Hilmar's background is a historian, activist and lecturer. He was also active at the Asian Regional Exchange for New Alternatives (ARENA) and the Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Society as Editors. In 2002, Hilmar founded and led the Indonesian Institute of Social History until 2007 and is still the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the non-profit organization.
