Behavior Control and Goods-Transportation Planning for Better Economy

2018

Abstraksi

Transportation for a country is like a blood vessel for human. Transportation system move people and goods around the country to support the economic activities and also delivers the basic needs of the population. As we all know, transportation cost in goods delivery affects the goods' price, and it also directly affect the population's purchasing power. Severe transportation cost in goods delivery will result in great disparity in the purchasing power within the population. For goods delivery that uses trucks as the goods' carrier, the main factor affecting the transportation cost is the fuel consumption of the truck. While overloading the truck transporting the goods are common practice, we have shown in our analysis that this practice is actually more costly than loading the truck by following the standard. We argue that loading the truck by following the standard will result in lower goods' price. Transportation policy and law enforcement are not enough to drive the truck operator to follow the standard. Our paper aims to propose a solution such that the truck operator will voluntarily follow the standard. The solutions comprise of two entities: (1) behavior control of truck operator and (2) a comprehensive goods-transportation planning. We believe that these solutions will suppress the goods' transportation cost, hence the goods' price. Moreover, this will result in lower energy consumption as well as air pollution in the country.
