2018

Abstraksi

It is agreed that Jokowi’s Nawacita has showcased major developments in some areas of rural Indonesia. However, the improvements narrowing regional disparities across the country published tend to be more about architectonic expansions than about human developments. This paper precedes the case study of Islamic Boarding school orphanage namely Pondok Pesantren Yatim Dhuafa Al Ikhlas based in Singosari, Malang, East Java, as a family based orphanage fostering underprivileged children from Eastern Indonesia. The program promotes long-term mobility plan for orphans and/or poverty-stricken children. Young adults graduating from the said Islamic boarding school will be sent back to their birthplace, expected to have a better life and to assist their regions’ developments. This prudent grassroots initiative is yet to be made public and explored academically. Performance research had been conducted in 2013 and in 2017 escalating quality of caregivers (ustadz and ustadzah) by professional development series of workshops. It is maintained that the said established community that based in Java has capability in accelerating children from Eastern Indonesia’s capacity development through education and parenting during the children’s upbringing. Results also established that culture shock both from the caregivers and foster children are as expected, substantially because the majority of caregivers are inexperienced in parenting. It is suggested that the foster children’s life trajectory research after re-united with their extended families should be conducted in order to register how community participation in improving education as one of basic services in rural areas are directed.
