An integral improvement of behavior determinants as a strategy to decrease discrepancy of health investment for children

Abstraksi

This paper describes a community development project focused on behavior determinants intervention in a private school of early childhood. Literatures suggest that it is pivotal to educate healthy behavior to children earlier. However, not all of early childhood schools are adequate to carry out health promoting school due to their limitation in some aspects such as facility, budget and human resources. This may commonly found in private school including a Christian school for early childhood, namely PAUD Via Dolorosa. As such, could be say that there would be a discrepancy of health investment for children in this school as they are studying in inadequate school environment which could put them at high risk of communicable diseases. Taking into consideration of its limitation, an integral improvement of behavior determinants project of community development has been implemented. This project addressed factors determining student’ behavior in preventing infectious diseases, that are predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors. This project has impact on increasing of knowledge, attitude and practice about communicable diseases, personal hygiene and healthy snack for children, availability of health promotion facilities as well as increasing of teachers and parents involvement in health promotion. By improving these three factors influencing behavior, this school can provide a healthful school living which support the student to learn earlier about healthy behavior and minimize discrepancy of health investment for children.
